about
Oh hey, you made it! Good to see you! Oh dang, that’s certainly a bit of a ways off to Nightbus City from here, but you’re just in time for the concert at the Space Hut. Yeah, it’s the grand re-opening tonight. I heard apollo bitrate’s performing with a bunch of her friends. Wait, you haven’t heard of her? Oh, you’ve heard *of* her, but just haven’t heard her stuff. No, I got ya, that makes sense since she hasn’t put out any albums yet… but you’re in luck ‘cause it’s also the premiere of her debut! Yeah I’ve actually had the honor of hearing it myself. It’s kick-ass. Oh what’s it like? Oh, well, it’s kinda got like these chiptune-type synths that play the cutest and most euphoric melodies to ever grace the Space Hut. She also plays really, REALLY loud on the first few tracks. Yeah like there’s this one track, I think it’s called “half asleep bacteriophage,” that’s probably got my favorite melody of the year, and at one point it just throws the concept of dynamics out the window and blasts your eardrums with the loudest synthesizer I’ve ever heard. No, don’t worry; I brought some earplugs. Yeah but then it’s like, really awesome cause she also has these couple tracks called “spacelovers” that kinda give you room to breathe and prepare a bit for the next onslaught. chillbitz is actually appearing for one of those. Yeah then I heard bextest, cluttrglych, and clust.r are poppin’ up tonight as well to bring their own sorta thing to the event. Dunno who the last one is though, no… I haven’t even heard of them before until this album. But yeah the bextest track is a banger; it’s got this really simple bassline but the breaks go so hard that it makes me want to, like, rob a train or something. And then cluttrglych is, like, doing impossible shit on some live drums that sounds totally raw as hell. I guess the clust.r track is pretty good too, got some sick granular-kid606-DSP-type shit goin on with the breaks at a couple points, then apollo kicks it into third gear in the last leg of the track with this wicked tempo change, but it’s always light on its feet… super rad. There’s this other track right after called “iovolt nights” that’s got some classic amenz thrown in that I love. Glad she put that one on the album. Then this track “you fall apart” is so sick,, I’m talkin’ walls of distortion with these really disorienting glitches that happen about halfway through. Can’t wait to hear it pumping through the hut’s loudspeakers…gonna melt some faces for sure. Then there’s one last spacelovers track that sorta cools everything back down for the night with some sorta minimal chiptune chords paired with some waltzing drum machines. Sounds like a hell of an album right? Yeah, I mean—oh cool it’s starting right now, ummm, talk to you later? Sick, maybe we can get an autograph from her after the show! Nah, you look amazing. You see how I’m dressed? I’m pretty sure they’ll let just about any misfit in here; pretty sure the motto here’s like “we love you eternally” or something.
