Story from April 24th 2075
A youthful looking human was sat down by a large hoof-mammal, sifting through it’s wispy brown fur to pick out and discard the sentient-poggers which nestled like lice. Compatriots of the cockroach, they survived the apocalypse but their place of origin did not… These sentient-poggers were of a particularly vampiric strain and gorged the blood of the grazing agrarian flock in small (but collectively large) doses. Sweat and consciousness evaporated off the head of the human and the wide back of the hoof-mammal… The task was just monotonous and rhythmic enough for his mind to void and wander. He searched back to the day before, remembering this awkward confrontation… Green screened across the hot day with his listless eyes he sees his hands, grasping a skull to be broken and ground down for the crops. For the first time, however, he was staring at the skull not as an object but as a skull. He looked at the crevice where ribbons of flesh had supported it’s precarious jaw hinge… A thought brewed, completing itself after he looked up at the stars... There are these gargantuan stars that dust our view of the sky. They are inhuman distances away from us, and we can see them. In all that distance there are rocks and chemicals floating around, just as intentionally-so as we are here on this planet. So what is this little skull, and precarious jaw? Host to a piece of astounding meat that will - quicker than the lifetime of any inanimate rock - meet the bulging expulsion of a mound of maggots and rot away into the soil. How to decipher his place, so fragile and precarious, in the celestial soup with collections of matter much older and stronger than him, he does not know, and the question makes him unsure it makes a difference…
On the schedule for tomorrow was the harvesting of temple-wheat with a scythe he had decorated with EPSON printer stickers...
about
THE SETTING OF THE ALBUM:
Steve Harvey uploads a series of videos on youtube called ‘Motivated’. In this series he has filmed himself preaching Christian self-help to the studio audiences of his various TV shows. Whether real raving devotees or TV-tourists held in a hostage ad break, the doting audience will tribute in applause. Already a mogul of entertainment television, Steve Harvey’s forceful move into the personal and spiritual lives of his audiences slashes through the vines and establishes a colony of cultural influence, consolidating itself more and more into a pillar of hard stone. Entertainment and self-proclaimed advice from god, through the conduit of the mustache millionaire, are being welded together. After a devastating apocalypse vaporized the building blocks of human civilisation and decades have gone rebuilding humanity to it’s ‘Classic era’ of pre-industrial empires and reawakened mystical idealism, Steve Harvey has emerged a new Pharaoh. His cultural domination was further enabled through the use of nu rituals and outer-body magics channelled from the artifacts of old technology… Indiscernible chunks of computer nestle in the moss and fresh-water. The metaphysical is now most physical, coexisting with the rudimentary recollection of pre-apocalyptic science & general knowledge.
In his time, pre-apocalypse, Steve Harvey wielded the power of public opinion - both hands gripped on the hilt. Sitting before him is an audience, a false-crowd of people, a simulation of a crowd made of fans on a waiting list for tickets which still resemble the abstract ‘crowd’ of public consensus. The prompted applause reinforces ideas within our cultural tapestry at Steve Harvey’s whim, it is a supreme power held in his hands (so long as the financial overlords of daytime TV - unaware of their impending atomisation - find him suitable for their decrepit coffers, overflowing with dollar bills). Fans are willing to sacrifice their identity in the court of Harvey as he draws on a constantly building tower of cultural significance, an amassing weight of influence…
All he lacked was economic dominance, and the atomisation of human society allowed the cultural & spiritual icon to coup the remains of economic power and become Pharaoh.
Here lies an album of dated stories from this new human experience, unsorted tales from the new old empire, sprawling stone wonders and pre-industrial economic power, the human finity asked and answered in a new context… A world of solitude and pre-documentation, with strong community and shared history.
