The first ever retrac recordings release comes from mysterious UK producer giganomz, with “analoᵍᵍle #one,” a compilation of the infamous “Amibooble Analoggle” EP, the recently released “Fût Créée,” as well as some bonus recordings along the way!
The write-up below is for the tape edition, complete with multiple bonus tracks and an alternate mix of the first track!:
For fans of intense stream of consciousness electronic noize, go to side A, which starts off with the carefully titled “Amibooble_59mlx_analogglemix2007_alt”, pelting the listener with blasts of sonic assault and crisp distorted drums. Despite the chaotic and frequent detours the song makes, it’s clear to hear that giganomz holds tight control over each tweak, glitch, and snare rush along the way. As the track devolves into an unrelenting wall of noise, it glides smoothly into “maxamalresde,” another quick 20 second blast of granulated white noise. “55_testmeat_UI7 [alt_mix]” is akin to the first track again, yet arguably even more experimental and dynamic, culminating in the final few seconds of the track giving the listener’s ear a good rinse. The ominous synth work of “22-55-mx_Solid” signifies the latter half of the first side, and fizzles out into “AE-2000w,” which features what sounds like a siren, but soon reveals itself to be nothing more than a snare rush in disguise on top of a rumbling synth pad. The final track of the first side is a spit in the listener’s face, featuring a voice saying “You don’t even get to pick!”—which sums up the first half beautifully: You, as the listener, don’t get to choose how the audio in this release unfolds, you only get to sit back, r̶e̶l̶a̶x̶, and observe.
For more melodic endeavors, go to side B. Track 1 —"tuesday17 1520”— is sure to be the most accessible track on the release, beginning with a field recording of a simple metronome ticking away as the artist previews some drum samples—along with what sounds like the distorted rumbling of the wind—and soon giving way to some very rich and melancholy synths, paired with expertly crafted glitchy beats that complement the mood of the track well. After another brief intermission from the metronome again, everything we’ve just heard doubles in speed, creating a more triumphant sound as the track ends. “8Delnk (депрессия)” wouldn’t sound quite out of place on a Caretaker record—albeit sans vinyl crackle—and conjures up thoughts of Erik Satie’s Gymnopedies. From “inspektor_sands18” rings out another field recording of an unknown place calling for the titular character. “gbfak turia14” serves as one last grand send-off of everything we’ve heard thus far on Side A and B. It has everything: harsh and chaotic experiments in the first few seconds, field recordings of piano, and complex and detailed synth work. “Чехов” features a lonely piano drenched in reverb and creates a somber mood, only to say ‘just kidding!’ with the final three notes, almost as if it’s a tragic epilogue to an otherwise humorous and fun story.

it seems less repetitive than a lot in this genre. the music has variation. the project's structure and use of field recordings also seem high-effort. it remains one of the best malls on mars even today. orsonwiles
